SG vice president resigns
STUDENT GOVERNMENT (SG) VICE PRESIDENT NIÑO CARLO BAUTISTA resigned from office after almost five months in service last October 5 because he said he had every reason to do so. Bautista said that his resignation was already in plan before he decided to run for vice president for he wanted to give the other senators a chance to be in the said position. He also said that his main reason was that he wanted to focus more on his studies since he is a graduating student, and because he had already passed the bill allowing black pants for students and the fund raise for Local Student Council (LSC) of different colleges. SG president Ernest Timothy Flores, however, rejected Bautista’s resignation because of an impeachment complaint by Ranilo Paderna, LSC governor of College of Engineering (COE). Bautista having been aware of the complaint withdrew his resignation and decided to make an amicable settlement with the complainant and the SG Ethics Committee last September 26. When asked on what the complaint was about, Bautista said that part of the said settlement was to cease talking about the complaint to anyone . “Medyo degrading, stop na yung mudslinging. We’re not politicians in the first place, we’re student leaders who want to serve the students, it so happened that I am not perfect and syempre may mga maibubutas sa atin kaya nakipag-amicable settlement [ako] to end the issue,” explained Bautista. Bautista also said that he is planning to enter law school after he graduated and that the issue might affect his application to it. Paderna, meanwhile, explained that being an SG official and a member of the Executive Board, he just did the right thing. “Pumayag ako [kasi] in the first place wala namang mawawala sakin, yun nga lang, nakulong ako dun sa amicable settlement kaya hindi ako makapagsalita,” Paderna clarified. “It will not affect the studentry in the first place,” concluded Bautista when asked about the students’ right of information. Troy Bel Cabrera, SG senator and the majority floor leader of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) assumed Bautista’s position soon after. (Ruby Rose R. Cruz) Possibly Related Posts:
