COEd prepares Students for Deployment
The College of Education (COEd) conducted a three-day seminar last June 2-4 at the Bulacan State University (BulSU) Gymnasium participated by all 3rd year and 4th year COEd students. With the theme “The New Teacher Education Curriculum and the Challenges for Quality of Education,” the seminar aimed to give background knowledge to the said participants in preparation for their actual teaching demonstration and their Field Study (FS) courses once they were deployed to their respective schools. On the first day of the seminar, Resource Speakers Reynaldo S Cristobal, Principal of Guiguinto National Vocational High School; Dr. Nora C. Lising, Principal of Pamarawan High School; and Keynote Speaker Dr. Brenda B. Corpuz, OIC/Chairman, Professional Board for Teacher- Professional Regulation Commission(PRC) and member of Technical Panel for Teacher Education shared their views and thoughts about the Licensure Examination for Teachers(LET), expectations of Cooperating Schools and Teachers, and the behavior, values, and attitudes of a teacher.
Initiative, spirituality and cooperation were some of the tips given by the speakers to the prospective teachers on their actual teaching demonstration. “Let us be a blessing not a burden, karamihang sinasabi ng mga guro na problema lang ang mga student teacher (ST),”said Cristobal as he ended his speech. Selective admission, selective retention and passing the LET were some of the gates an education student should pass through to become a professional teacher. Cristobal also added that Republic Act No. 7836 mandates a professional license for anyone who teaches in a classroom. Meanwhile, Dr. Corpuz also noted the previous LET results having very low percentage of passers. “Sa nakaraang resulta ng LET, 25% lang ng mga nag-exam sa Secondary Education ang pumasa at 27% ang sa Elementary Education,” said Corpuz. The Keynote Speaker also noted her observations about the result of the previous LET, adding: “Karamihan sa mga pumapasa na kumukuha ng exam ay mga English majors because they have enough knowledge to understand the English language. Ang iba, simpleng instructions lang, ang hihina makaintindi kaya sila bumabagsak.” “Continuing Professional Teacher Education (CPTE) ang sagot para ma-fulfill mo ang pagiging isang guro. Don’t just become a teacher over night na sulat lang ng sulat ng lesson plan. Aspire to top the LET!” Corpuz advised the participants about making a mark as a teacher. (Edmundo V.
