COEd Student Teachers upgrade English Proficency

 



Nine English Majoring students from the BulSU-COEd and Professor Marilyn Reyes from the Institute of Arts and Letters of the English Language Department participated in a training program for student teachers held on Sept. 22-26, 2008 at the University Hotel of the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.



Steered by the theme “Upgrading the English Proficiency of BSE/BSEd Student Teachers from TEI’s”, the said program included topics such as communicative competence, language and reading in the content areas, understanding non-fiction text structures, Content-Based Instruction (CBI), strategies for CBI, workshop on developing instructional plan and demo-teaching with critiquing. These topics are incorporated towards teaching English as a subject with other subjects using the English language. Dean Vivien M. Talisayon of the UP-COEd with CHEd Commisioner Nenalyn P. Defensor headed the said training program.



Together with the BulSU delegates, other participants came from different universities and colleges in NCR (National Capital Region) and Regions III and IV including Pamantasang Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMar), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), and Romblon State University (RSU) to name to some.
